Struggling with this one as musicals aren't really my thing. I was however in a production of Oliver when I was still at school, so decided to go for Fagin thinking it out again.
I suppose I could have gone for something from the Blues Brothers again but didn't want to use the same film twice. Are there any other Blues or Rock based musicals that should have come to mind?

Oh, David, seriously.
"It's just a jump to the left, and then a step to the riiiiiight..."
Best. Rock. Musical. Ever.
Although, and it almost pains me to say it, Les Miserables is every bit as good but a very different category of musical.
Rocky Horror - should have remembered that one. Another film I saw at a late nighter in the Grosvenor back when I was a student. Although the audience particiipation was fun, and some of the audience inserted dialogue was very clever, I didn't particularly like the music. (A bit of a problem for a musical!) Apart from the time warp, I don't think I could hum you another tune from it. I seem to remember that Mr Loaf gave good value in his performance but can't even remember if he sang a solo.
Have I just gone down in your estimation... Or was I never in your estimation to begin with?
On a family holiday to Lomdon, I wanted to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but I was a lone voice and so I was dragged to Les Miserables instead. No spoken dialogue though, so technically not a musical.
In honesty, unless you've got good audience partici.......pation, then the film is a very poor second to seeing the show performed live on stage.
If you want to cheat a little on the musical front, then there's always "Buddy" which is chock full of classic rock and roll. As is the Roy Orbison Story.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - why didn't I rember this number? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUno-5FO7NU&sns=em
Love the way Dick Van Dyke is just a beat behind everyone else at the start as he "learns" the dance.
I think biopics is a topic later in the challenge...
These aren't biopics - they're live on-stage musicals :)
Buddy is *incredible*. There's an Elvis one as well - "Liberty".
